What is a Truss?

Many clients as the question "what is a truss?" A truss is a system of framing that has become popular over the past few decades. It is a system of framing using a pre-engineered design. They are typically built with 2x4's and metal plates (as seen in the picture below).

There are many advantages to using trusses, the first being ease of use and installation. The standard rafter takes more effort and work to build onsite than the typical truss system. Also, in certain ways and buildings, the trusses can be much stronger.

One of the disadvantages is making alterations. Because it is engineered, it is actually delicate in certain ways. Any time the plates or framing are adjusted, they should be done/supervised by a qualified engineer.

Thanks for pointing out that building trusses are easy, and it is even more durable. With that in mind, I will make sure that our future house will have this feature. Currently, we are still listing down the things that we want our house to have since we plan to have the construction start next year. Thanks for the information!

I loved how you mentioned that trusses can be strong. My husband is building our home and he was telling me a couple of days ago about how he didn't know what to use for the roof. I'll make sure to pass this information along to him so he can look into using trusses.

I like what you said about using trusses since they're easy to install. My sister has been telling me about how she wants to get a new roof installed in her home soon. I'll share this information with her so that she can look into her options for professionals who can help her with this.
